FAO Pledges Renewed Partnership and Support to NFAA

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations in Liberia has reaffirmed its continued partnership and support to the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA).

FAO Liberia has been a key partner to NFAA since the promulgation of the agency’s first post-war Executive Order number 101 issued on 27 April 2020 to rebrand and reposition the institution and team up with development partners to address the issues of food security and nutrition in the country.

Making the commitment on Monday, March 10, 2025 at the agency’s main office in Fiamah – Sinkor, the Country Representative of FAO in Liberia, Madam Bintia Stephen Tchicaya stressed the need for strengthening the institutional capacity of NFAA if Liberia desires positive outcomes in the fight against food insecurity to adhere with United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals on ending global poverty by 2030. She then indicated FAO’s offer to fund the development of NFAA’s five-year strategic plan and donate five laptop computers for improved service delivery in the operations of the agency.

Madam Tchicaya, who had wanted to be a part of the official dedication ceremony of NFAA’s new office building in Fiamah, but could not do so due to official engagements a couple of months ago, toured facilities of the agency during her brief visit.
Beaming with the mixed of smiles and excitements, Madam Tchicaya marveled at the exquisite office setup of an agency which, a few years back, was housed in a two-room office space at the Ministry of Public Works with hardly anything to reveal its agency status. “Wow! I like your new office with all its setting,” the FAO boss told staff, disclosing further that FAO would do more to support NFAA only with tangible achievements of results from core statutory mandates.

Responding, the Director of Human Resources (HR), Ms. Christiana A. Kayakpah thanked Madam Tchicaya for the gesture, terming it as a huge contribution to government’s effort in repositioning NFAA. Ms. Kayakpah said the general staff of NFAA had long yearned for such an opportunity to physically interact with key development partners and move the agency a notch higher.

FAO has been working closely with the Liberian government and various stakeholders to promote sustainable agriculture, improve food security, and reduce hunger. Through technical assistance, capacity-building initiatives, and knowledge-sharing programs, FAO continues to empower local communities, farmers, and policymakers.
