World Food Forum Liberia (WFFLiberia), a subsidiary of a Global Youth Action Network to transform Liberia’s Agri-food systems has reached out to the National Food Assistance Agency (NFAA) in the bid to formally present its plan of activities in the country for possible collaboration in the food assistance sector.
Presenting the activities of the Network to the management of NFAA, WFFLiberia team – most of whom are young people – indicated that the World Food Forum (WFF) is an independent youth-led global network of partners facilitated by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to undertake such activities as promoting the production of backyard gardens in schools to enhance school feeding, championing gender equality, recognizing and making use of innovative solutions to collaborate and forge powerful networks.
According to the team, World Food Forum Liberia has incorporated six institutions to form part of its activities with the total membership now standing at five hundred since its establishment on April 24, 2024. The team disclosed that after WFFLiberia was founded and recognized with technical support from FAO, His Excellency President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. had served as a keynote speaker during one of its national functions.
Responding, DG Borkai A.M. Sirleaf lauded the team for thinking outside the box with innovative solutions for the improvement of the nation’s agri-food systems. He said with the activities outlined, the young people are beginning to take the right trajectory that will not only resonate with their forebears, but strengthen governance policies for inclusivity. DG Sirleaf however urged the team to stay on the side of the law if WFFLiberia is to do business with state institutions like NFAA and the rest.
World Food Forum is a dynamic global platform that transcends boundaries, generations and sectors to transform the future of the world’s agri-food systems. In 2024, WFF held its groundbreaking event from 14 to 18 October at the headquarters of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Rome, Italy, and online. The event brought together world experts, impassioned changemakers and visionary leaders of all ages around the theme: “Good food for all, for today and tomorrow”.
WFF is organized around three pillars – Global Youth Action, Science and Innovation and Hand-in-Hand Investment.
